Opening ceremony of the international scientific conference "20 years of researching, preserving and promoting the value of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long - Hanoi"
After two days of serious work, in-depth academic and professional exchange, on the afternoon of September 9, the International Scientific Conference "20 years of research, preservation and promotion of the value of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long - Ha Noi", organized by the Hanoi People's Committee in collaboration with the Hanoi UNESCO Office and the Vietnam Historical Science Association.
Attending the workshop, were former member of the Party Central Committee, former Standing Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Ngo Thi Thanh Hang; Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Van Phong; Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Chu Xuan Dung; representative of the World Heritage Center, in charge of the Asia - Pacific region Nao Hayashi; President of the International Council of Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) Marie Laure Lavenir; Chief Representative of UNESCO Office in Vietnam Christian Manhart.
Speaking at the closing of the Workshop, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Chu Xuan Dung said: “We are very pleased that the Conference has received the attention of experts from UNESCO, ICOM, ICOMOS, French experts, Italy, Japan, England; delegates representing the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Vietnam National Committee for UNESCO; ministries, branches and central agencies; Research institutes, universities, museums, world heritage sites of Vietnam and many scientists in the fields of history, archeology, Han Nom, culture, art, conservation, heritage... ".
Affirming the great success of the workshop was the release of the Hanoi Declaration 2022 on the conservation of World Cultural Heritage in the Central Area of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Chu Xuan Dung emphasized: This is one of the bases and orientations for the research, conservation and promotion of the value of the World Heritage Center of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long - Hanoi in the new period."
“The identified heritage values must play a core role in evaluating the development plan that harmonizes the traditional values with the requirements of today's modern life. To realize our vision, we need to shift from a rigid rules-based heritage conservation approach to a more inclusive sustainability and value-based approach in the spirit of the 1972 Convention.” Comrade Chu Xuan Dung said.
